Welcome to the Players Pool League Calgary AB
Having fun playing pool is what we're all about - since 1992!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SPECIAL Covid 19 MESSAGE August 23, 2020
What a crazy year!
Ever since mid March when it seemed like the world turned upside down, we've all been worried and concerned about protecting our health and that of others. The playing of pool came to a sudden halt and for good reason.
Now that we've weathered the first pandemic wave and it looks like any second will be manageable, pool is being played once again in Calgary and throughout Alberta.
In the last week, I have gone around to all of the PPL play locations and the good news is that none have closed (except for the Legion on Horton Road). They've all said they'll be ready to host us when the league restarts in early September.
Just as the host locations have had to adapt to special Covid requirements to re-open, so will we as players in 100% following same at all times.
For those wondering, these precautions do not include having to wear a mask while playing pool. However, only the two players will be permitted to be around the pool table during each game of the match.
I for one am very thankful that we are now able to go out and have a great time socializing and playing pool again.
I've really missed that and look forward to seeing everyone.
NB. The CCS - Canadian Cue Sport Association have advised that they intend to go ahead and stage all 5 of their annual Championships as usual assuming of course that same is permitted by the Health Authorities at that time.

We are a 'Travelling - Handicapped - Cash - Sanctioned' league. What does all that mean?
Travelling - Each team selects a Home Bar where about half of their matches are played. Most are in the South and the East. Handicapped - All games are scored on points with Team Handicaps giving every team a better chance of winning. Cash - It's not free to play but that's why every team and every player has a great chance of winning cash prizes during both League Play and in the Playoffs. Sanctioned - All players are registered with the CCS - Canadian Cue Sport Association giving everyone the opportunity to play in any tournament they want to - Vancouver Island's, BC's, Western's, Maritime's, Canadian's or even Las Vegas.
BACK AGAIN THIS YEAR - Check out the Intermix Division with lower Fees and a shorter schedule:
Not the Best? No problem. You don’t have to be - all play is handicapped. Can’t play all Winter? No problem. Sessions are 12 weeks - choose the one you want. Don’t have a team? No problem. You’re not alone - we’ll get you on one. No place to play? No problem. There's lots to choose from.

The PPL has always had a history of being innovative in trying new things to make for a better league. We now use the 17 point Game Scoring system. Why? The bigger spread in player averages gives every team a better chance of winning. No change in scoring for the game loser - one point for every ball sunk of their group. The difference is that the combined point total for the loser and the winner must always add up to 17. The PPL didn't invent it. Many leagues in Canada have switched over in recent years for the same reasons.
